I was born in Hong Kong in the American-British family but soon came back to Colorado. I got a degree in Asian studies and then in political philosophy. I spent part of my life as a young and ambitious political and economic advisor in US-Asian affairs, but one day I suddenly decided that it’s too boring for me and makes my mind too “self-controlled.” And I came back to my most favorite mission in this life — writing books and teaching students. So I settled in the small town in NY state, near picturesque lake Ery, with my books, academic studies and new ideas.
I spend my life between the US and Hong Kong, offering lectures in several universities in hermeneutic philosophy and Asian spiritual traditions. And I hope teach students to think unpredictably, to recognize the inner nature of things, and to overcome the limits of our ideas. So say to see the miracle of the existence of our mind.

… It has been raining for three days long. Endless, monotonous. Rain seems to be tired of itself. Can you imagine how tired of him I am! The drops, gathering in narrow streams, flow down the cold stone walls, leaving puddles on the floor, the smell of wet straw hangs in the air, my blanket and pillows stuffed with rotten straw smell terribly. Dreadfully damp, just unbearable. The moisture penetrates even to the bones – I even can’t imagine how to think about wisdom and enlightenment.
Well, as you have already understood, it seems I have reached what I aspired to and what I din into your ears during our short meeting. I settled in an authentic and quite non-tourist monastery in the Songshan mountains, the area which is considered here in China the most central of the most sacred. Everything is “the very thing” here. And I am among the real monks, who look at me with perplexity. Tourists do not wander here, there is no desk with entrance tickets, and there are no special training classes for foreigners, as in the neighboring advertised Shaolinsi monastery. Everything is very modest. Even excessively modest, gray, and now it is damp. What difference does it make! Even for a short time, but the door to the world of real wisdom and true enlightenment opened to me. Well, at least I really want to believe in it.
Hi! To be honest, you surprised me with your message. I really didn’t expect you to write to me! Or maybe still waiting … Well, I don’t know. True, I stayed silent and listened to the deep stream of philosophical truisms of the narcissistic handsome man, who decided to hit another silly victim. It’s always funny for me to look at these types – I know how to behave with such men. Sartre, long before your oriental reasoning, wrote about the nonsense of existence and the joy of stupid efforts, and he did it much more exciting than your confusing stories. Sorry, I don’t want to hurt your feelings, but I read it too.
In contrast to the number of “happy blondies,” I have quite a solid literary education at the Sorbonne, and it is difficult to surprise me with “philosophies.” Good luck in your monasticism – I hope you quickly declare it and return to good Western culture and the joys of wonderful dinners on the seashore.
